I Give Up on GOP “Leadership”

This is about something that is a bit dated, but I’ve been trying to formulate my thoughts on this. I am completely disgusted by comments made by two Republican State senators in Nevada. First, State Senator Bill Raggio, R-Reno had this to say:
“My party is going to have to change. It’s gone too far to the right … The Republican far right message does not sell.”
State Sen. Warren Hardy, R-Las Vegas thinks Nevadans have “repudiated the state’s small-government, libertarian past:”
“Nevada has gone in the last two to four years from center-right to center-left and it’s not going back. We’re a blue state and we’re going to continue to be a blue state. We have to become a more moderate party if we’re going to survive in the future.”
Well, let’s just waive the surrender flag, shall we? I have to wonder what these two geniuses are thinking? For one thing, Nevada is not now “center-left,” nor do I believe the rest of the country is. For that matter, Obama and most Congressional Democrats are not center-left either – they are hard Left, bordering on Marxism. The idea that we should surrender our Conservative principles is absurd and disgusting.
I wish I could ask these two just what they find so extreme about Conservative principles.
- Is the idea that every child has the right to be born “too extreme?”
- Is the idea that parents have the right to be involved in health care decisions involving their children “too extreme?”
- Is the idea that the Bill of Rights enumerates inalienable rights that can’t be taken away “too extreme?”
- Is the idea that people should be able to keep more of the money they earn “too extreme?”
- Is the idea that government governs best when it governs least – one of the principles our Nation was founded on – “too extreme?”
What exactly are these people talking about? I sincerely hope that they’re just suffering from PTSD and will come to their senses. If not though, then I have to wonder why they were Republicans in the first place. Was it because they actually believed in Conservative principles, or because it was just the best way to get themselves elected?
I’m not a political analyst, but several polls show that we remain a center-right country. Obama’s election was more a repudiation of President Bush than it was a mandate for the radical Left’s vision for our country. I also fail to see how acting like Democrats will help Republicans win elections in the future. If voters truly buy into the radical Leftist agenda embraced by Obama and his Democratic allies in Congress, wouldn’t they just vote for the real thing instead of a “socialist-lite” Republican?
It’s time for the Conservative base of the Republican Party to remind our so-called leaders where they came from. Please write your elected representatives and let them know you’re not ready to give up on Conservative principles. Start looking for true Conservatives that can challenge them in the primaries in 2 years. Too many GOP “leaders” are abandoning our Conservative principles. The leadership, in many cases, is not going to work for the principles we believe in. It’s going to be up to us, the Conservative base, to take our party back to its roots. Let’s find new leaders. As for the old “leaders,” if they like the Democrat’s positions on issues so much, maybe they’d be happier if they switched to that party.
Cheers,
Ken
