Treason and Audacity

Article III of the US Constitution defines treason as follows:
Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.
Although the term is misused a lot, actual treason is a very rare crime. As rare as it is, there are some people who hate their own country – the USA – enough to commit treason against it. One of these people was John Walker Lindh.
There is no doubt that he committed treason. He was caught on a battlefield fighting against American troops, i.e. waging war against the United States. When caught, instead of identifying himself as a US citizen, he chose to stick with his Taliban and al-Qaeda friends, giving them aid and comfort. Finally, he withheld information about a prison revolt which resulted in the murder of a CIA officer.
Now, this piece of human garbage has the audacity to ask President Bush to commute his sentence after only 7 years in custody. In my opinion, he should be down on his knees every day offering a prayer of thanks that he didn’t get what he deserved in Afghanistan. Instead he and his left wing lawyers think we should have mercy on him. OK, President Bush, go ahead and commute his sentence – then let him be sent to Afghanistan and be tried there for any crimes he may have committed against that country.
Cheers,
Ken
