What Price Freedom?

How much is your freedom worth to you? Is it worth $10? $100? $1000? To tell you the truth, I don’t think you can put a price on freedom – if you could, it would be a price you couldn’t afford to pay. Our freedom has been paid for with the blood of patriots who gave their lives to obtain it and preserve it.

Today, our freedoms and essential liberties are under attack. Not by a foreign enemy, but by a President and Congress who seem to have missed the little detail that in the United States of America, government is of the People, by the People, and for the People. Instead, we have wannabe rulers who by their actions show that they truly believe that “We the People” exist to serve big Government.

Two days ago, ONE person had the courage to speak truth to power – he called Obama on one of his many lies regarding health care reform. As a result of his honesty, he is faces censure (even though perpetual liar Pelosi at first said he wouldn’t), vilification from most of the “free” press, and targeting by libtards who have raised almost $1 million for his opponent in just a couple of days. Why? Because he had the honesty and conviction to stand up against Obama’s lies.

How much is your freedom worth? Will you let Joe Wilson be burried by those who oppose liberty and freedom? I’m donating $100 to his campaign. If you value your freedom, you should consider donating too. Joe Wilson for Congress – change I can believe in.

Mark Amodei is Not the One

Besides Obama’s 122nd speech on health care reform, the other news yesterday was that Mark Amodei is seeking the Republican nomination to challenge Harry Pelosi Reid in Nevada’s 2010 Senate race. I listened to him on the local talk radio show, and I think he is a weak candidate. As a state legislator, he cosponsored one of the most comprehensive tax packages (read “largest tax increases”) ever seen in Nevada. His answers to callers’ questions sounded weasely to me. When asked about abortion, he said said he’s been on both sides but refused to say what his position on it is now, other than that he opposes Federal funding for abortions. When ask about his position on affirmative action, he said he’d have to “study” the issue before taking a position. Huh??? He wouldn’t say he was against the State legislature going full time, only that he was “proud” that Nevada voters continually reject such proposals. He is from the northern part of the state, so most voters in Las Vegas (i.e. the majority of voters in the entire state) have probably never heard of him. In short, he probably wouldn’t be able to beat Reid in the general election, no matter how low Reid’s approval rating is.

There are already 2 people in the race. Danny Tarkanian and Sue Lowden both have better name recognition and better conservative credentials. Amodei’s entrance into the race, and the probable entrance of Sharron Angle, will do nothing except ensure that the Republican candidates will spend lots of campaign cash fighting each other in the primary. The “winner” won’t have the cash to run a successful campaign against Reid, who will also be able to cherry pick statements made against each other in the primary as ammunition to use against them in the general election. In other words, Mr. Amodei may have just assured Reid’s victory in 2010.

An Honest Politician – I’m Impressed

Wow – one single Congressman had the cajones to call Obama what he is – a liar. Of course he immediately drew criticism from both sides of the aisle, but he is right – Obama is lying about what “his” plan will do to health care in the US. Personally, I think Rep. Wilson deserves a medal. Obama’s lying is nothing new; even before he was elected he presented himself as a moderate.

I listened to as much of his speech as I could stomach. The teleprompter must have been working great because in the entire 43 seconds I didn’t hear a single “uh.” I did hear a few whoppers though. I wish I had seen it on TV instead of just listening to it on the radio so I could see if he managed to keep a straight face.

Whopper number one was “I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits either now or in the future. Period.” Right, and I have a bridge I can sell you really cheap. This is coming from a guy that has so far increased the federal deficit more than all previous presidents combined. Now he expects us to believe he’s fiscally responsible? The government’s own CBO says Obamacare will increase deficits while not insuring all the uninsured. Sorry, Der Furher… err… Mr. President, you’ve long since lost your credibility when it comes to fiscal responsibility. If you’re not lying about this, you’re delusional.

Whopper number two was “I believe it makes more sense to build on what works and fix what doesn’t, rather than try to build an entirely new system from scratch.” Again, I’m calling BS on this. He’s stated many times that he wants a single payer (meaning the government) system. A single payer system (i.e. “public option) would eventually eliminate private insurance choices. If there is only one payer, that payer gets to decide everything – what will be paid for, who will be paid, and how much they will be paid. Under Obama’s plan, if you don’t like what your government paid doctor says you can have regarding treatment, you’re S.O.L. Sorry Mr. President, the government has no moral or legal authority to tell anyone what doctor they can see or what treatment they can receive.

Whopper number three: “They will no longer be able to place some arbitrary cap on the amount of coverage you can receive in a given year or in a lifetime.” You might want to consult Zeke about this, Mr. President…

If you read the whole speach (transcript is here), you can see for yourself that it is just full of… Obama. No substance, just platitudes. He has no plan, except he thinks that government should control health care. Just like he thinks government should control everything, including the auto industry, banking and investment, etc, all the while proclaiming he has no desire to control any of it. Sure. He’s a narcissist and a liar. Joe Wilson deserves a medal for speaking truth to power.

Charlie Sheen, Idiot

So now Charlie Sheen – who by the way I think is a great actor – is “demanding” a meeting with American dictator Barak Obama. It seems he’s upset that Obama won’t get on the right side of history. What is Obama doing to stay on “the wrong side?” According to Mr. Sheen, the September 11, 2001 were an inside job perpetrated by the Bush administration as “the pretext for the systematic dismantling of our Constitution and Bill of Rights.” Mr. Sheen, you need to lay off the peyote. You are correct that an American regime is in the process of dismantling our Constitution and Bill of Rights, but it is the Obama regime. Your ex-wife is correct – you’re delusional.

If You’re Going to Quote the Bible…

…at least get the quote right. Sarah Palin has an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal regarding health care reform, and of course the left wing nut cases commenting are apoplectic. All us free market types are just a bunch of money worshiping, greedy evil-mongers. My favorite comment actually (mis)quotes the Bible:

The love of money is the root of all evil.

The passage (1 Timothy 6:10) actually reads “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” Leaving out those three little words changes the meaning of the passage. If you’re going to quote Scripture, at least have the decency to quote it accurately.

Since we’re quoting Scripture now, here are a few other interesting ones:

You shall not murder

You shall not steal

You shall not covet… anything that belongs to your neighbor

I’ll leave the first one alone for now, but the whole Democrat class warfare mantra is premised on the second two. “Those rich people don’t deserve what they have. Who are they to have more than me?” Leftists teach people to covet what others have, offer to steal it for them through confiscatory taxes and wealth redistribution, and then have the gall to lecture conservatives on morality? I don’t think so. I don’t worship money, but I have the right to keep what I earn. As others have said, God only asks for 10%, why does government think they need so much more? As for the libtards who want higher taxes on “the rich,” when they empower government to impose confiscatory taxes, they are just as guilty of theft as if they’d held you up at gun point. The only difference is they don’t have the huevos to rob you themselves, so they get the government to do it for them.

Liberal Empathy

I guess the reason that most people vote for liberal politicians is because said politicians “care” so much for the people. Here is an example of just how much they care:

One veteran of the failed Clinton health care reform effort is refusing to hold town hall meetings because she says critics of the current effort don’t deserve a forum.

According to Real Clear Politics, New York Democratic Congresswoman Louise Slaughter tells a liberal radio host she’s just not going to do it: “I’m not doing town meetings. I’m not going to give those people a forum…. My own dignity and the dignity of the office I hold is important to me. And I know what that is. It’s not a spontaneous uprising of my constituents.”

If you disagree with her, you don’t deserve to be heard. It’s all about her, her dignity, and what’s important to her. It’s the same way with Harry Reid, etc… Why won’t people get a clue? Politicians, especially liberal politicians, don’t give a rat’s ass about us common people. At least most of the Republicans pay lip service to freedom and liberty, not that I believe them… But if this lady gets re-elected after such a blatant display of contempt for the people she supposedly works for, I might start to lose my hope for the future of our (once great) nation.

Another Liberal Idiot

Gosh, those evil college Republicans… In case you haven’t heard, a group of Republican students at the University of Toledo is compiling a list of “liberal” professors. I think it’s kind of a waste of time – aren’t they almost all liberal? – but I can see their point. I don’t have a problem with liberal professors, but I do have a problem with liberal professors who feel the need to push a certain agenda. A list of that type would be useful so I would know which professors to avoid and thus not waste money on an expensive class, when I could take the same course from a different professor who would just teach without pushing an agenda. I actually have a bad experience with this. One of the courses I was required to take was called “Western Traditions.” Based on the course description, I was actually looking forward to it. Unfortunately, the instructor was a leftist with an agenda to push. The gist of his teaching was that most of the achievements of the “Western World” wre actually ideas stolen from Africa, and if you’re a Christian you’re an idiot. To this day, I can’t figure out how the comment about Christianity fit into the class curriculum. Anyway, such a list may have been helpfull. However, one of the instructors at the University of Toledo seems to have taken offense and has published a letter that appears as on op-ed on Fox News:

By Professor Thomas Lingeman
University of Toledo

Dear Mr. Matt Rubin and the University of Toledo College Republicans

Though you and your organization have not defined a “liberal,” I can very well bet that I am one and therefore belong on your list. So, please include me. I am a professor at The University of Toledo. I have been teaching sculpture, design and drawing to university students since 1979.

As a liberal, this is what I have done and what I espouse:

1. I voted for Barack Obama and canvassed for him in Perrysburg, Ohio. I love my President and his family.

2. I am in favor of a national public health system that includes the public option as well as a single-payer system.

3. America needs a national public transportation system that everyone living within its borders can afford to use daily.

4. There should be at least a 20 to a 30-day waiting period, for investigative purposes by law enforcement authorities, for the purchase of any gun, with the exception of black powder muzzle loaders.

5. Evolution is proven science. T-Rex actually lived 65 million years ago. Dinosaurs evolved into birds.

6. Global warming is proven science and has been created by humans and can be fixed by humans.

7. Homosexuals should have the same rights as heterosexuals. They should be allowed to marry, divorce and raise children.

8. I watch MSNBC between the hours of 5 and 10 p.m.

9. I believe that our nation was thrust into the Iraq war by our government, led by George W. Bush, under false pretenses.

10. I subscribe to The Nation magazine.

11. I have many other “liberal” views. I do not believe I need to add more qualifications as a liberal to my profile to qualify for your — as you say it — “directory.”

I teach art; hopefully, Art with a capital “A.” I love all forms of art. I love the cave paintings of Lascaux and the architecture of Frank Gehry. I especially love the works housed in the collection of The Toledo Museum of Art (they are not reproductions). I have been encouraged, over the years, by the administration, to incorporate these works and, as a consequence, the beliefs of these artists into my teaching.

When I lecture to my students in the TMA collection, my voice intensifies and my eyes brighten visibly when I lead them to the works of Giacometti, Marini, Calder, Kiefer, Nevelson, Close and others. I also love the work of Duane Hanson, Juan Munoz, Sol Lewitt, Robert Irwin, Richard Serra, Mark di Suvero, Magdelena Abakanowicz, Tony Smith and Joel Shapiro, among many more.

I attempt to influence my students into sharing my love of these artists. By so doing, I hope they will enlarge their world view. That is my teaching! If I have crossed your line, Mr. Rubin, and the line of your organization, then you have me in your “directory.”

But Mr. Rubin, I fear your “directory,” because, historically, this information has assumed a mind of its own. The list you and your Republican colleagues have manufactured may not always find itself in the hands of someone with your profound, indeed, almost professorial, understanding of the nuances of higher education.

After you have my name, place of employment, address and whatever other information you and your fellow Republicans can glean for your “directory,” what do you intend to do with this information?

Sincerely,

Thomas Lingeman, Professor of Art, The University of Toledo

Mr. Ligeman, with all due respect, you’re an idiot. You’re afraid of a bunch of college students but you support a President who wants to make the biggest intrusion into the private lives of US citizens in the history of our (once) great nation? You’re scared of a little list of teachers they don’t want to take classes from, but you see nothing wrong with making an individual’s medical and tax records available to just about any government entity (federal, state, and local) who wants to see them? Maybe you should try cutting back from 5 hours of television every day. Studies show that too much TV can have an adverse affect on one’s intellect, and you are showing symptoms…

Democrats Attack Yet Another Freedom

Democrats are attempting to give American dictator Barack Obama the power to seize control of the Internet. The Cyber Security Act of 2009 would give Obama the power to shut down Internet traffic by seizing control of private networks in case of a so-called cyber emergency, which is undefined. Hmmm… why would he need this power. Maybe to shut off dissenting voices? Remember, this is the same man who stated during the campaign that:

We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.

What “enemy” is this security force going to protect against, and who are they going to be protecting? Since we already have a military, the civilian force must be for something else. Recent statements by prominent members of Congress – Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, etc. – almost sound like they think that anyone who disagrees with the radical fascism they’re trying to ram down our throats is the enemy. I can hardly wait until they start calling us “enemies of the state.” In this context, giving Obama the power to shut down the Internet makes perfect sense. If their “enemies” can’t communicate, it will be difficult or impossible to coordinate an effective resistance.

These so called public servants (yeah, right. They way they “service” us is akin to the way a bull services a cow) seem to have forgotten that in the USA, people don’t serve the government, government exists soley to protect the rights of the people. Those running our country now, from the top down, are commiting acts of treason on a daily basis agianst the people of this country. It’s time to vote the out of office, starting in 2010. In 2012, after Obama is defeated (assuming they even allow an election), he (along with Rahm Emanuel, Eric Holder, and others) need to be investigated, prosecuted, convicted, and locked up for life.

Dems Move to Exploit Kennedy’s Death

Well, that didn’t take long. When I checked Fox News this morning I read the announcement of Senator Ted Kennedy’s passing, and now only a few hours later I see that Democrats are already trying to use his death as a rallying cry for health care reform. What a wonderful idea, and what a wonderful monument to a man who spent much of his political career pushing liberal causes. Or not. A better “monement” might be something to do with the dangers of drinking and driving, or perhaps “bridge safety.”

So Thankful for Health Care “Reform”

I’m still worried, but I’m also hopeful that so called health care “reform” (meaning a government takeover of the US health care system) will finally wake Americans up to what our elected officials and other liberals are trying to do to this country. It’s obvious to anyone who has read the House bill (H.R. 3200) that those claiming this bill is good for us are at best misrepresenting what is actually in it. This includes wannabe American dictator Barak Obama. Since they can’t win the arguments against the bill on the merits of the bill itself, they have resorted to personal attacks on opponents of the bill, and not just verbal. After the Obama regime sent out an email to supporters asking them to show up at town hall meetings and counter the “disinformation” about the health care bill, union goons roughed up opponents of the bill, including a black conservative and another man with advanced cancer. This shouldn’t be a surprise given Obama’s background in Chicago politics and associations, including Bill “I wish I’d planted more bombs” Ayers and Jeremiah “God d*** America”  Wright.

OK, so liberal politicians hate the institutions this country was founded on, and hate individual liberty (why else would they want to tell us what doctor we’re “allowed” to see, or what treatment we’re “allowed” to get). No surprise there. It turns out though that even rank and file liberals seem to hate the concept, and their contempt for individual liberties is now on open display thanks to Whole Foods Market’s CEO, John Mackey.

In the August 12 Wall Street Journal, Mr. Mackey wrote an op-ed that dared to criticize H.R. 3200. Instead of just criticizing H.R. 3200 though, the article also offered possible solutions – based on what actually works for Whole Foods. Here are the health care benefits Whole Foods offers to their employees:

  1. Whole Foods lets their employees vote on what type of health care benefits should be covered by the company
  2. Whole Foods pays 100% of the health insurance premium for employees who work 30 hours a week or more
  3. Whole Foods deposits up to $1800 annually into each employee’s Personal Wellness Account to spend as they choose on their own health and wellness. Money not spent rolls over into the next year

Unfortunately, Whole Food’s customer base is largely liberal, and they went apoplectic when the piece was published. Over 4000 negative comments were posted on Whole Foods’ Internet forum. As one poster put it,

“While it was a horrible business move, it was a great courtesy,” a commenter identified as boycottwf wrote. “Now, I know that my dollars spent at whole foods are going to fund your misguided conservative views.”

All Whole Foods has done is provide their employees with excellent health care coverage, along with a model (that has been proven to work) for the rest of the country on how a good system that gives consumers control over their own health care choices, leaves those choices up to the consumers and their doctors, and most importantly keeps government out of things that are no damn business of the government. For this they are being excoriated by their liberal customers. If this isn’t proof that liberals only care about government control, and not what is good for individual citizens – you know, the ones government is supposed to serve – then I don’t know what is.

This is what liberalism is about – they don’t care about you, they just care about controlling you. That is why Mr. Mackey’s critics are so upset. He provides concrete evidence that people can get good health care without government control. Even worse, he shows how more government control will actually have a detrimental effect on US health care. They hate him for exposing the truth.
